Knowledge exchange and hands-on interoperability testing on EEHRxF
We are delighted to announce the i2Xathon, an i2Xmilestone. On 20–21 October 2026, i2X partners will gather in Pisa, Italy, for a high-level, two-day meeting dedicated to knowledge exchange, technical alignment, and hands-on interoperability testing. Hosted by the Monasterio Foundation at the S. Cataldo Hospital Congress Building, the event will be held in conjunction with the Hospital on HL7 FHIR (HoF) User Days, representing a pivotal step forward in the implementation of a unified European digital health ecosystem.
Find out more on HoF User Days:
Day 1 – October 20th – Implementation Exchange & Setup: The initial phase focuses on technical synchronisation and environment configuration. This collaborative framework allows institutional partners to resolve architectural alignments, share deployment experiences, and prepare infrastructure for live testing.
Day 2 – October 21st – The i2Xathon Testing Day: The core technical benchmark of the event. Partners will conduct cross-border, end-to-end interoperability validation using Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR). Testing will focus strictly on the five European Electronic Health Record Exchange Format (EEHRxF) priority domains: Patient Summaries, ePrescriptions, Laboratory Results, Discharge Reports, and Medical Imaging.
In parallel with the testing tracks, the consortium will host HoF Session 12: “Applied Ecosystems i2X in Action: EEHRxF Implementation Guides, UI Ergonomics, and Connexions” This session on 20 October, 13:00–14:00, bridges the project’s internal milestones with the broader international IT health community. Project experts will present peer insights, discuss implementation barriers, and showcase deployment methodologies to foster global knowledge dissemination.
By validating seamless clinical data exchange, the i2Xathon reinforces the foundational infrastructure required for cross-border continuity of care.
